Marco Torrez, has started two new Journalism clubs here at UNM. A brief summary of each club is below.

Broadcast Coalition of UNM (BCUNM):

The purpose of  BCUNM is to provide aspiring journalists with a professional medium to publish their television news packages to help build their reporter’s reel while also providing an opportunity for these journalists to get hands on experience with producing a weekly news program, in a real news studio, to air in the Student Union Building (SUB) and other locations on and off campus. The BCUNM is setup to work like a regular broadcast news media outlet, which includes roles that run a studio: anchors, reporters, producers, editors, camera peoples, technical workers and a sales team. Networking opportunities and resources for professional development, will also be offered to members of BCUNM.

We have three upcoming workshops that are required for all members to attend. The dates for these workshops will be every Friday from August 24th to September 7th between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (2:30 p.m. on the 31st).

The meeting space for the workshops will be inside the C&J Broadcast Studio, which is the double door entrance located next to the NM Newsport, past the stairs, directly across from the northwestern entrance/exit to the building.

NAHJ – UNM Student Chapter:

The focus of the NAHJ-UNMSC is to give aspiring journalists and current/active journalists the opportunity to learn new skills and help develop current ones. We are trying to focus in all areas & mediums of journalism (Print, Photo, Video, Audio...) (Business, Technology, Crime, Law, Local, Documentaries, Environmental, Health, Science, Weather, Sports, etc...).

The club is set to have 1 to 2 workshops per month in which professionals from around our local community and from around the nation will host and educate members and staff alike.

One of the best perks about being a part of our club is that we are offering a free annual membership to NAHJ to all our members. This is a great opportunity get something very solid for your resume and help build those connections needed to take the next step after college. Anyone is allowed to join, not just exclusively Hispanics (as is the same rules with the NAHJ).
