The staff and students of New Mexico News Port are finalists in this year’s Region 9 Mark of Excellence Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists!

The Mark of Excellence Awards honor the best in student journalism. Winners will be announced and finalists will be honored at this year's Conference March 24-25, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The New Mexico News Port is the student-powered news service based in the UNM Communication & Journalism Department. In 2016, the site featured “Creative New Mexico” – coverage of the emerging innovation economy – and “Political New Mexico” – local coverage of the 2016 elections. News Port student editors included Marino Spencer, Angela Shen, Ebony Romero, Luke Winter, Maleesa Sehlmeyer and Arianna Sena. News Port collaborators include C&J news classes and professional news partners NMPBS, KUNM and New Mexico In Depth.
