Gabriela “Gabby” Morales was born and raised in the sister border cities of Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua and El Paso, TX. Navigating life between Mexico and the U.S. has given Gabby clear insight into the multiplicity of cultures she is proud to be a part of. Gabby earned her BA in Electronic Media and an MA in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso. Thanks to her education and personal experiences, she has been a part of and lead several impactful research projects with other Hispanics/Latinos. Working with Hispanic/Latino parents of children with Pediatric Cancer to understand their cultural coping strategies and communicative difficulties, and working with Hispanic/Latino breast cancer survivors to understand their perspective on social support and cultural influences on health, has led Gabby to continue her passion, and keep working with this underrepresented population. Through her focus on health communication, she wishes to better understand health disparities and social and cultural determinants of health for the Hispanic/Latino population she is a part of.
