Audio Journalism Fall 2018 (formerly Radio News Production CJ393)
CJ370.001 CRN#63031
Mondays 5:30p - 8:00p
Room 106, C&J Building Instructor: Elaine Baumgartel, News Director at KUNM public radio

Students will learn to pitch, gather and edit audio; write and deliver scripts for radio and podcasts; and produce a range of audio story formats including newscast spots, features, postcards, podcasts and Q&A's. Other skills include writing, interviewing, source development and deadline writing.

I run the class like a newsroom. Students will also learn to give and receive quality and useful feedback and have a portfolio of audio journalism stories at the end of the semester.

We will spend quite a bit of time at KUNM, the public radio station and NPR affiliate located on campus, training in the studios there. We'll also make use of the C&J department's studio.

Work that meets KUNM broadcast standards may be aired on KUNM or published on KUNM's website as on-demand content.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions or share my contact info.
