Graduation and Retention Rates University of New Mexico Journalism and Mass Communication majors

Graduation

Below are graduation rates for journalism and mass communication majors for 4-year, 5-year, and 6-year degrees for the 2006 cohort:

  • 4-year: 28%
  • 5-year: 83%
  • 6-year: 89%

Retention

Of the 304 declared JMC majors in 2011, 86 graduated before the following fall semester, although 31 of these graduates changed to a different major before graduation. Of the 218 who did not graduate, 192 or 88% returned for fall 2012. 166 or 76% of the 192 returning students remained a JMC major in the fall of 2012.

Note: Students can declare a major in Journalism/Mass Communication after completing the admission requirements for the College of Arts and Sciences and for the Communication and Journalism Department.
