The C&J Department is conducting a national search for a new faculty member that will serve as Chair upon joining UNM in 2016-17. Upon the retirement of Dr. Karen Foss, former C&J chair, in Spring 2015, the College of Arts & Sciences approved the hiring of a senior associate professor or full professor with administrative and leadership experience to head the department.

The Chair is responsible for delivery of the curriculum; managing faculty, staff, budgets, and program assessments; fostering faculty and student success; and representing the Department within the University and community. The position is typically a four-year, renewable term, contingent on favorable evaluations. Candidates for this position are expected to demonstrate excellence in communication scholarship and teaching graduate and undergraduate students, leadership skills, ability or potential to generate external funding, active participation in academic and professional organizations, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The date of appointment is August 2016, prior to the commencement of the fall semester.
