Gwyneth came to UNM as a part-time instructor in 2010 and became Professor of Practice in 2023 She teaches news writing and reporting, media ethics and law, interviewing, media management and other classes in the Department of Communication and Journalism. She manages the New Mexico Local News Fellowship and Internship Program, a partnership between UNM and the independent nonprofit New Mexico Local News Fund. And she oversees the department-run New Mexico News Port. As a Statehouse Faculty Champion, she has led students in reporting from the state Capitol in Santa Fe. Gwyneth is a Faculty Adviser for the student chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She is also the department Internship Coordinator. She is a Faculty Affiliate at the R.H. Mallory Center for Community Geography.
 
Gwyneth Doland has been a journalist since 1999, working in alternative weekly papers, magazines, radio, television and online news. She is Senior Political Correspondent at New Mexico PBS, where leads coverage of the state legislature. She is also a contributor to New Mexico in Depth, KUNM News and New Mexico Magazine. In 2012 and 2015 she authored reports on government accountability for the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C.; The 2012 State Integrity Report was a finalist for the Goldsmith Prize from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Her work covering state government been honored with a First Amendment Award from the ACLU of New Mexico, and top honors from the New Mexico Broadcasters Association. Gwyneth was previously the executive director of the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government and was a founding director of the renewed Society of Professional Journalists Rio Grande Chapter. She is an officer of the Journalism and Women Symposium and the Elections Chair for NAHJ New Mexico. She serves on the advisory board of Press Forward New Mexico.
 
Gwyneth earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Earlham College and a master’s degree with a concentration in journalism from the Harvard University Extension School.
