About Santhosh Rangamma-Chandrashekar
I am a first-generation scholar from a lower(ed) caste who was born and raised in Karnataka, India, before coming to the U.S. for higher education. I received my MA and doctoral degrees from the University of New Mexico and worked at the University of Denver where I was tenured before being hired by UNM. My research examines the intersection of racialization and caste/ism. Drawing upon the work of Indigenous and Black theorists, specifically feminists of color, and lower(ed)-caste intellectuals, I approach the racialization of those of Indian origin in North America (who are predominantly upper caste Hindus) as entangled with settler-colonial and anti-Black logics and structured by caste/ism, Islamophobia, and heteropatriarchy. My publications explore different dimensions of this phenomenon, and both my graduate and undergraduate classes foster critical thinking by challenging social inequities.
