Bernadette Marie Calafell (Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is an associate professor and chair of communication studies at University of Denver. Her research is centered in women of feminisms, performance studies, and critical rhetoric.

She is author of the book Latina/o Communication Studies: Theorizing Performance, which was the recipient of the 2009 Lilla Heston Award from the National Communication Association.  She also co-edited Latina/o Discourse in Vernacular Spaces: Somos de Una Voz? with Dr. Michelle Holling.  She was named the 2010 Scholar of the Year by the Latina/o Communication Studies Division and La Raza Caucus of the National Communication Association.
