Laura Torre is currently a Ph.D. student at the Department of Communication and Journalism. Born in Italy, she holds a B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Genoa (Italy) and a M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Siena (Italy). Also, she obtained a Ph.D. in Translation and Language Sciences from the Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), with a thesis on Spanish and Italian news (and readers' comments) on Facebook about gender violence.

With a general curiosity and interest in everything about Communication Studies, she is particularly interested in Media Studies, focusing on mass media discourses, especially newspapers and social media (particularly considering Facebook). Moreover, she is interested in the Critical Discourse Analysis perspective as an instrument to study the Power and Domination present in the different discourses of our society, above all mass media ones; also, she is interested in Political Communication, primarily considering the role of mass and social media.

Lastly, she is interested in Gender Studies, especially considering mass media discourses about violence against women. For the academic year 2024/2025, she is part of the UNM Zancada cohort (https://news.unm.edu/news/ovpr-announces-newest-cohort-of-zancada-fellows).

Outside the academic world, Laura takes photos as an amateur photographer. She loves reading, listening to almost all kinds of music, and watching movies. Last but not least, she likes traveling and knowing as many places as possible.
