Laura Torre is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Communication and
Journalism. Born in Italy, she holds a M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Siena
(Italy) and a B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Genoa
(Italy). Also, she obtained a Ph.D. in Translation and Language Sciences from the
Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), with a thesis on Spanish and Italian news (and
readers' comments) on Facebook about Violence Against Women.
Journalism. Born in Italy, she holds a M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Siena
(Italy) and a B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Genoa
(Italy). Also, she obtained a Ph.D. in Translation and Language Sciences from the
Pompeu Fabra University (Spain), with a thesis on Spanish and Italian news (and
readers' comments) on Facebook about Violence Against Women.
With a general curiosity and interest in everything about Communication Studies, she is
particularly focused on Media Studies, primarily on mass media discourses, especially
related to newspapers and social media (particularly considering Facebook), and with a
specific focus on Political Communication, precisely by analyzing the role of mass and
social media.
Moreover, she is interested in the Critical Discourse Analysis perspective as a tool to
study the power hidden behind various discourses of our society, particularly those of
the mass media. Lastly, she is interested in Gender Studies, especially in the context of
mass media discourses depicting gender violence.
For the academic year 2024/2025, she was part of the UNM Zancada cohort
(https://news.unm.edu/news/ovpr-announces-newest-cohort-of-zancada-fellows).
Outside the academic world, Laura takes photos as an amateur photographer. Also, she
loves reading, listening to almost all kinds of music, and watching movies. Last but not
least, she likes traveling and knowing as many places as possible.
